Study Skills
One of the challenges facing students these days is they are faced with increasing stimulus. This stimulus comes in many forms of distractions. These distractions prevent students from grasping the focus they require in reaching their potential when learning and acquiring new skills and knowledge.
There are many strategies in retaining what you have learned. I will list a few web-based resources as well as some videos. The videos are not flashy but the content is valuable.

TLR (Transfer Lifting & Repositioning)
Students took part in training for TLR at a few of the Development Centres in RPS. Tuesday, the students were tested to receive their TLR certification. Students from Health Sciences will be teaming with the Cosmotology students to demonstrate a Trauma event. The Cosmo students will use their skills to stage the injuries while the Health students will demonstrate their First Aid skills in dealing with the injuries.

Dec. 5th was the Regina Public Schools Career Symposium held at the
Cochrane/CRP campus. Our students ran a Health Sciences snapshot of our
program to showcase the program for other students. We called our
snapshot "The Doctors" and we provided vital signs. The students did an
excellent job of working with our visitors and were great ambassadors
for the Health Science programs.

Here is another hint for you Health Science students. Know how to answer this! Compose an answer and get feedback on your answer. Bring it Friday for review.
The Human immune response can be divided into two responses: Humoral (antibody mediated) response and the Cell Mediated response. Describe the basic immune response using these categories and the following keys terms/structures: B-Cells (Immediate response and memory cells), APC (antigen presenting cells), T-Cells (Killer T Cell & Supressor T Cell), & antibody function (hint: 4 types)
The board diagram summary we did in class will help you organize this answer.

So we are into December. Use the Calendar on the right to check dates. You have an evaluation on the Lymphatic, Endocrine, and Respiratory Systems on Monday December 9th. An outline will follow (here). Start studying yesterday. Bring your questions!
Portfolios for Mrs. Williams class were due at the end of November. Has yours been submitted? How about those volunteer hours? Time is running out and you need to have that in place if you don't already.
Check powerschool to make sure you are up to date on ant evaluations or assignments. Don't let a lack of organization and preparation reflect in your grades. Be a good communicator and ask for guidance if you are struggling!
We are wrapping up First Aid and will be soon looking at TLR training. The Career Symposium is December 5th and you all should know when you will be working at the Health Sciences booth in the morning and/or afternoon. Regardless if you are excused for the morning to attend, all Health Science students are to attend the afternoon at CRP.
Biology 30 students will be beginning Genetics soon and the Health Science 20 students will be focusing on medical Diagnostic tools/technologies.
Bookmark this blog as I am going to try and use it more often. The Twitter feed will also run off this page so it will hopefully become the one-stop shopping experience for the Heath Science Program

Welcome to the CRP Health Siences Blog
Hello Students, Parents, and Guardians!
In an ongoing attempt to improve communication with everyone I have decided to use the Google Apps Blogger feature provided by Regina Public Schools. The Google Apps available will allow me to do a few things to make things more efficient. Students will be able to log in and complete and submit there lab reports (and other written assignments) using Google Docs. This way the students do not need a particular program but a simple internet connection. I can then give feedback on the document so that students can improve their work before the due date and final evaluation.
The Apps also allow me to use the Google Calendar to add in keys dates for assignments, evaluations, trips, guest speakers, and other important dates. The Blog App can also allow me to share our experiences and other materials that may be helpful to the students. This is, of course, a work in progress and will improve as I become more familiar and comfortable with the Apps.
I look forward to this next step in making the Campus Regina Public's Health Science Program even better for students.
